“Deborah’s Specialty Cakes is excited to be part of the Foundry Park Inn’s Annual Bridal Open House again this year!

Deborah’s delights in making your cake unique and delicious. This isn’t just a job to me, it’s my creative outlet and something I love to do. I can’t think of a more wonderful thing than to be a part of people’s special moments, and being Italian means the best way to do that is with food, of course!! Each cake is the result of in-depth consultations with you. I like to get to know you, get to know your personality a little. Once I get a feel for what it is you are looking for I do a sketch and we use that as our working model.  The end result of this careful attention to detail is a centerpiece that harmonizes with your celebration and adds that extra special something. I can make a life-size guitar, complete with all the doo-dads. I have hand sculpted everything from an eight point buck to delicate, gumpaste magnolias. I’ve done Hobbit cakes and wedding cakes with zombies. After 25 years of making cakes there is not much I haven’t done and I am continually updating my skills.

A cake may be beautiful to look at but if it’s dry and tasteless the loveliness is soon forgotten. I make every single cake, from scratch, the day before your special event. Since all my cakes are by special order only I have no need to freeze cakes in order to meet an unexpected demand, and so my cakes are fresh, moist, and flavorful. I’ve developed a storehouse of recipes over the years that yield old-fashioned, truly yummy cakes, every time. The flavors, textures, and frosting combinations are endless. The thing I am most proud of is my authentic, Italian meringue icing. If icing has confectioner’s sugar in it then it is decidedly not an authentic buttercream icing. I am the only bakery in town that makes this wonderful icing. Not too sweet, not too heavy and full of real vanilla. It feels so luscious and delicious in your mouth, you’ll never want the other stuff again. Guaranteed!

Last but not least, I am very happy to offer Vegan, Non-Dairy, and Gluten Free cakes in addition to my regular flavors. I am fairly certain I can work around any food allergens or sensitivities you may have. I love to offer this to my clients because,no one should have to be without cake…..ever!!

I am giving away a door prize that every bride is eligible for, a gift certificate worth $50.00 towards your wedding cake for 125 people or more! Please come join us and have fun and eat cake!!

Welcome! Summer Bridal Tasting & More….

24 Aug

Welcome everyone to The Foundry Park Inn & Spa wedding blog! I am so excited to be able to put together something for our Foundry Brides & those checking out The Inn!

It is my goal to keep you updated on the new goings-on around The Inn as well as  to offer tips, pictures, & new wedding ideas – from the cake to the decor:)

Last weekend we had a great turn out at our 2009 summer bridal open house and tasting.

Sharon Edwards of the Athens Banner Herald was there taking photos for Spotted, and can they be seen at the below link:

We also had Zoomworks photography come to take some photos prior to the tasting:

PINK! Yes, we went with champagne pink, black & white – so very plush & traditional – works great for any season!  It also compliments our newly renovated banquet spaces – new paint & carpet!

Thank you to Gardenia Floral Design for creating our fabulous centerpieces.

Make use of those bouquets!  Seen above as a centerpiece – bridal bouquet in the center with bridesmaids florals in mint julep cups around – Beautiful!

This also works well for your cake table….

Another thanks to Enrique with Cecilia Villaveces Cakes (our preferred baker) for bringing 6 beautiful and tasty cakes – Enrique was also our guest speaker for the afternoon, offering tips and answering questions about cake ordering and decor.  My favorite is the Spanish lemon….

Fruit Carving Stations are a cool twist on the typical sliced fruit display – and a great way to get your guests involved in the action!

Each plate is carved to order by  one of our wonderful chefs, and a wide selection of fruits (papaya anyone?) can be offered based on the season – we even dress it up with dipping sauces and toasted coconut:

Speaking of action….

Executive Chef  Martin Smetana keeps the pasta station going.  Action stations could be created for a range of menus from fried green tomatoes to fajitas, shrimp & grits, & don’t forget the fruit! A cool way to wow guests & it can all be cooked to order!

As I mentioned before, we had a full house with lots of brides, grooms, parents and friends there to taste food, Sangria:) and cakes….

Thank you to everyone who could make it! I hope it was informative & helpful to you in creating your dream menu, cake and event!

Keep in mind that we do put together these tasting events 4 times a year, so if you were unable to make it to this one, the next is scheduled for February 28th & it is going to be a doozy!  Not only will we have food to taste, but Athens Premier Vendors (florists, photographers, cakes, musicians and much more!) will also be on hand to discuss booking options as well – this will take place throughout ALL of our banquet spaces, including The Melting Point.

I mentioned that we recently finished the renovation of our banquet spaces, but neglected to let everyone know that we are wrapping up a complete renovation of our sleeping rooms as well.

Shiny white bathrooms, lux white bed linen, plush new carpet, & fresh paint just adds to the charm here at The Inn!  I can’t wait to show it off…..

As soon as we get some photos, I will be sure to get them here for all to see!
